and he takes and he takes and he takes

It's the fourth anniversary of my friend Ben's death. He died in a drowning accident in 2007. He would have been 27 this year.

Ben was bright and brilliant and full of life, and there's not much else I can say besides I miss him.

Here's Sufjan Stevens' "Casimir Pulaski Day." Ben introduced me to Sufjan, and it's a fitting song.

  1. I'm sorry for your loss. Sometimes the way things are is hard to bear; I hope you find comfort in the good memories of your friend.

  2. :'(

I miss him too. Time has made it so I don't cry every time I think about him, but the rock in my chest and heart is still there, and a big part of my brain still can't accept it.

I don't have any other words.

  3. Ben was such an integral part of college for me that a lot of times I can't think of one without the other.

I saw his family a few weeks ago. They're doing well, and I think time's healed some of the acute pain, but man. They lost their firstborn kid. I can't even imagine.

  4. It's still very strange to think of the world as a world without Ben in it. I don't think it will ever make sense.
